Why Elderly Folk Are A Complete Hazard - 809 Words

I believe elderly folk are a complete hazard to our roads. However, I must back myself up by saying that all people are a hazard when moving faster than a running pace. Inevitably, elderly are even more hazardous than the rest of the population since their age comes with more complications than a younger person. At an elderly age, the body becomes more susceptible to complications and the brain’s neurotransmitters to not behave normally. These complications and abnormalities can be the cause of a MCI (heart attack) or a brain aneurysm. If one of those were to occur while an old geezer was driving it would likely result in a fatal accident. As a solution, for there should be a special chauffer system set up for elderly. I believe that all people should be created equal. But, I do not know if it is right or wrong in God’s eyes for a woman to be in love with another female, which is the decision for the man upstairs. Based on the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, I tend to think it isn’t God’s choice. However, that does not mean that gay LGBT do not have the right to be married. Everyone can do whatever they please, in reality. One reason, gay/lesbian marriage is their right is based on our constitutional rights that all men are equal. Another reason they should have the right to marriage is because it is complete discrimination if prohibit matrimony to a certain portion of the population. I do not necessarily agree that that LGBT marriage is morally right, but I do believe it isShow MoreRelatedNathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown1083 Words   |  5 Pagesdespair, torched branches, and also a satanic spiritual union mocking biblical matters. My Plan For Continual Improvement - 969 Words

Part of my plan for continual improvement requires me to reflect on ideas yet implemented from my previous individual learning plan. These experiences included inviting more professionals in the community such as our newly organized soccer team, to come and speak to students. Since soccer is embedded deeply in the Hispanic culture, this is a great way to connect to the cultural linguistic learners of my school. Dong (2013) added the ELL’s prior experience is a great resource, which should be included in lessons. Other guest speakers would include plumbers, architects, and engineers giving the students relevancy about schoolwork and real world application. Lastly, activities involving visiting professional worksites and attending a NASA internship program were on the list of self-improvement events with good intentions. Good intentions not acted upon become just good ideas. These ideas never came to fruition for several reasons. Full time instruction, forty hours per week of graduate studies, and two and a half our commutes left little time to explore such wonderful opportunities. In addition, since the start of my degree program my assignment has changed no longer needing many of these resources. However, one activity does relate to my current placement, which is inviting athletes on all levels to share the importance of education upon their chosen field. A Person in Public Life Free Essays

A Person in Public Life that I want to become for a Brief Period in Time. If I were to become somebody else for a brief period of time, I would like to be the President of United States. I have known many people who have been asked this question and more often than not, they would answer Bill Gates or Oprah; but for me, I chose the President. We will write a custom essay sample on A Person in Public Life or any similar topic only for you Order Now Given this opportunity I would not think twice to choose the most powerful and influential man in United States. I want to be able to use that little time that I was given to do something worthwhile. The president has the capability to make change and impact the lives of millions of people. If an opportunity such as this would indeed present itself, I would make sure that every minute counts and that no time is wasted. As President, I would focus my attention to formulating strategies to solve the worsening economic problems such as increasing individuals access to capital, focusing on consumer’s awareness and financial literacy and minimizing predatory lending. I believe America should protect the family because as the most basic unit in the community, strong families provide a chain reaction which would reflect a strong community, a strong state and ultimately a strong society. I will put premium to the quality of work force because it would lead to stable jobs and ultimately a stable economy (Solutions for America, 2003). The dream of becoming a President and implementing change in the society sounds really idealistic but idealism is where everything started and in my opinion, it should not end there as well. Throughout history, we have witnesses different people turn these idealisms into visions and these visions into actions which our Country is reaping now. If it were not for the founding fathers’ bravery, the United States Constitution would still be a dream. After that brief period of time is over, I can still do something to effect change in my family and in the community that I live in. Like what President Obama said, we cannot expect the government to solve all our problems. If we want change, we must start somewhere and I think that the best place to start is with the people within our arms reach. Reference Solutions for America. (2003). Cat in the Rain free essay sample

Hemingways title to his story, Cat in the Rain carries more meaning than the literal cat in the rain. Indeed, the story talks about a cat stuck in the rain; however, this is not what Hemingway meant when he wrote the story. His character, the American Wife, alludes to the title of the story by presenting elements of confinement similar to that of the cat. We are first introduced to George and his wife, the latter is referred by as the American Wife in the first sentence of the story. This title lacks individuality and has no special meaning, signifying that she is just a mere American Woman and nothing else. This already confines the character in a little cage, since it implies that she will never get herself out of the hole where society has placed her. George does not help much, rarely paying attention to her whenever she demands his care. We will write a custom essay sample on Cat in the Rain or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This is evident when she sees a cat crouched under one of the dripping green tables , and points it out to her husband, who offers to help from his bed. Two points can be inferred from this event: first, George discards all the trivial things the wife says and does not provide her with any attention, making her feel that she must demand it. This lack of attention makes her feel that she does not have much freedom to express herself and keeps much of her feelings inside. Second and most importantly, she seems to connect with the cat, the cat was trying to make herself so compact so that she would not be dripped on. . She definitely feels the restraint that George has put on her, and in order to please him, she attempts to make herself compact just like the cat. The wife never speaks out about the restraint George puts on her, but rather feels it. The main reason behind this is her transformation from being the American Wife to the American Girl. To the general public, a girl seems to have less restraints due to her youth and innocence, while a wife has her (and her husbands) image to protect. Hemingways choice of words implies that she feels the restraints being lifted once she left her hotel room, leaving her husband behind. Hemingway provides other evidence for Georges restraints by presenting the hotel keeper, whom the wife has a liking for. Described as an old man and very tall, the wife has a liking for him, especially his many qualities such as the deadly serious way he received any complaints his dignity the way he wanted to serve her. Hemingway never says anything about the wife loving or liking George, further Cat in the rain free essay sample â€Å"Cat in the Rain† recounts the story of an American couple on vacation in Italy. The entirety of the story’s action takes place in or around the couple’s hotel, which faces the sea as well as the public garden and the war monument.Throughout the story it rains, leaving the couple trapped within their hotel room. As the American wife watches the rain, she sees a cat crouched â€Å"under one of the dripping green tables.† Feeling sorry for the cat that â€Å"was trying to make herself so compact she would not be dripped on,† the American wife decides to rescue that kitty.† On her way downstairs, the American wife encounters the innkeeper, with whom she has a short conversation. In this encounter, Hemingway specifically emphasizes how the wife likes the innkeeper, a word that is repeated often throughout the stories of In Our Time: The wife liked him. She liked the deadly serious way he received any complaints. We will write a custom essay sample on Cat in the rain or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page She liked his dignity. She liked the way he wanted to serve her. She liked the way he felt about being a hotel-keeper. She liked his old, heavy face and big hands. When the American wife finally arrives outside that cat is gone, and, slightly crestfallen, she returns to the room alone. The American wife then has a (rather one-sided) conversation with her husband about the things she wants with her life, particularly how she wants to settle down (as opposed to the transient vacation life the couple has in the story): â€Å"I want to eat at a table with my own silver and I want candles. And I want it to be spring and I want to brush my hair out in front of a mirror and I want a kitty and I want some new clothes.† However, her husband, George, continues to read his books, acting dismissively of what his wife â€Å"wants.† The story ends when the maid arrives with a â€Å"big tortoise-shell cat pressed tight against her and swung down against her body,† which she gives to the American wife. This ending is both abrupt and ambiguous, and â€Å"hinges on the mystery of the tortoise-shell cats identity. We do not know whether it is the kitty the wife spotted outside and so do not know whether she will be pleased to get it. A New York Times book reviewer comments on the plot of the very short story, writing â€Å"that is absolutely all there is, yet a lifetime of discontent, of looking outside for some unknown fulfillment is compressed into the offhand recital.†
